Honor Flight

Robin MacBlane is singing with me on this song.

Sally was older than most of the guys
That came to her all night cafe
They'd come from the theaters in '41
They'd talk about "Citizen Kane"
They'd talk about girls they were courting
And how they would make them their wives
But later that year we entered the war
And it altered the rest of their lives

Courageous they answered the call
In an age when hatred was out of control
They defined a generation
Sacrificing for the nations
In dawn's early light
We salute our heroes today
On an Honor Flight---

Sally would post all the letters she got
From the men who were fighting the war
They'd come from the theatres around the world
Saying, "Brew up a pot, I'll be back for more."
And some of those men kept their promise
And some never came back at all
And, today you'll find, at ninety-nine
Sally still has their words on her wall

Courageous they answered the call
In an age when hatred was out of control
They defined a generation
Sacrificing for the nations
In dawn's early light
We salute our heroes today
On an Honor Flight---

Sally's Cafe is buzzin' today
As the Ladies' Auxiliary
Raises some money with biscuits and honey
For a Veterans' flight to D.C.
And they humbly accept the donation
They don't think themselves heroes at all
But today they will know that we honor them so
When they gaze at that star studded wall

Courageous they answered the call
In an age when hatred was out of control
They defined a generation
Sacrificing for the nations
In dawn's early light
We salute our heroes today
On an Honor Flight---
